The nearby 800-acre Quemado Lake Recreation Area includes a 131-acre manmade trout lake with 2 fishing piers, 2 boat ramps, 7 developed campgrounds, a primitive campground and links to more than 7 miles of hiking trails.
  
Quemado Lake is stocked with rainbow trout in the fall, winter and summer. The lake offers year-round trout fishing and warm water fishing for channel catfish and smallmouth bass during the summer.

The Apache and Gila national forests border each other. The 2 combined forests cover much of Catron County.
    
There is also good big game hunting in Catron County. Elk are abundant, but the area also contains deer, bear, big horn sheep, mountain lion, wild turkey and more. Catron County also features many campgrounds on national forest land with facilities.
